Research: Captive (Netflix)

A South African couple kidnapped by AQAP - al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula., Without being told what's going on with your kids. It is the start of episode 7 of Captive.

Captive is the new Netflix documentary series that follows eight kidnappings, from prison riots and pirates to Coca-Cola heirs and Yemen. The series is produced by, among others, Doug Liman, which in our world is best known for directing The Bourne Identity. We go through all eight episodes.
episode 7

About: The South African aid workers Pierre and Yolande korki was kidnapped by al-Qaeda in Yemen in 2013. They were isolated from the outside world in the wilderness, and did not know what had happened to their two children.

Plus: Finally a familiar face! Morten Storm aka Agent Storm appear in the beginning of the episode. He remembers we are well from his autobiography in which he talks about how he became Danish Al-Qaeda member before becoming a double agent for MI5 and the CIA. He puts AQAP in perspective and gives al-Qaida a kind voice, while we get the typical dramatization of kidnapping and lives in a stone cottage in the wilderness. Man realize early why Yolande being interviewed alone, but if you do not know the story ends in a major political cluster fuck of the most typical. Most of the story focuses on the game around and between tribal leaders, politicians and Al-Qaeda, and it is said - as in the rest of the series - on a seemingly straight-forward manner.

Minus: Al-Qaeda has been sufficiently prominent in the media and documentaries since 9/11 that this docu appears a little sketchy. I would have liked that it went even deeper in individual events, such as the meeting between tribal leaders, the Americans' entry at the end or Morten Storms adventurous life. But that is the course a completely different documentary.

·         Through this we could explore negation and hostage:
·         Put the audience in hostage
·         Audience have to find a way to escape by negotiation.
